About me
Hello
I’m Jan Scott Nelson and this is my site. I’m very proud of it as I designed and built it myself, wrote it, and took most of the photographs.
By way of introduction, what should I tell you ‘about me’?
I could tell you about who I am and what I do: but how much do those labels really say about who we are, what moves us, what fires us up?
Let me tell you instead about just that. What moves me. What fires me.
I’m a baby boomer, although I didn’t really start to ‘boom’ until my late 30s. Now I want to keep booming. I want to keep those fireworks going into happy, healthy old age.
I love to take photographs. I collect vibrant images which fill the frame, up close and personal, allowing me to see extraordinary hidden beauty, the details you’d never spot with just a glance.
I love singing. I was very shy about it as a young woman, but now I’m happy to sing out loud wherever I am: as part of a choir, yes, but also simply as I go about my daily life. And I’ll also occasionally deliver a party piece, hamming it up like crazy, having a ball.
I love to play with my toddler grandson. I’m discovering the sheer delight that’s to be had in the grandparenting relationship. I am privileged to be able to spend a full day with him every week (which is why I work Monday-Thursday). Seeing how he is, his way of being, seeing WHO he is, really tuning in to his uniqueness, has enhanced my life beyond measure. Click here to read some stories/reflections about my wee man.
I love to write. I feel there’s a direct line frrom the soul to the pen and that through writing we can articulate our anxieties and fears, vent frustration and anger, deliberate on our challenges, uncover, then express our purpose, our role, our values, consider our forward path and monitor, with joy and delight our progress towards living in line with the very essence of our beings. You can read some of my thoughts on writing by clicking here.
I love to create. That feels scary to write, but it’s true. I love to create, yet I know I am only just starting to acknowledge my own creativity.
This site is part of my journey to recognise and celebrate it…
I’d be delighted if you’d join me.
